Faith on Four Legs Horsemanship (FoFLH) has been in operation since 2004. We are based out of Rolla, MO, however, we have done quite a bit of traveling to help horses in other towns or states.
Amy Ritoch is the Owner and Founder of FoFLH. She found a love for horses as a very young child, starting her first horse job working for her riding instructor as a stable hand, determined to earn enough to buy her first horse. While working with the horses there, she began to notice behavioral issues in some of the horses, and decided to learn the behaviors and body language behind everything horses do by spending hours observing them after work. After a few years, Amy's family moved to a small acreage in Concordia, MO where Amy finally put her hard earned money to work by buying her first horse. Four year old registered Arabian gelding Kasyme*, turned out to be quite a handful for the now twelve year old Amy. Many lessons were shared between the green horse and Amy, compelling her to learn more about training horses. A few years earlier she had met trainers Rex Barnett and Ron Poorman with Rex and Ron Horsemanship. She soon found herself in an apprenticeship with the two cowboys learning the art of Western horse training. A year and a half under their careful mentoring and an additional two year old half Arabian mare "Splash" and her two month old son "Domingo" later, Amy felt confident to begin her own business. Soon she began teaching riding lessons and working with other people's horses while improving her own horses and skills.
Fast forward several years to Amy's move to Rolla, MO and the continuation of her business in a new area, and a new apprenticeship as a working student for Lindsay Brown Founder and Owner of Liberty Glen Equestrian Center, where Amy began to learn Dressage and the art of English riding and instructing. Liberty Glen was also where Amy met "River Tam", a twelve year old Grade mare with abuse generated behavioral issues. "River" had been sent to Lindsay Brown, because the owners did not have the experience to ride or work the aggressive mare. After some consideration and many conversations, Lindsay Brown decided to give "River" to Amy as a training project. We are happy to say that "River" is now a very well behaved pony who now loves people!
Amy loves to work with "problem horses", knowing that sometimes just a gentle hand and a lot of patience is all a horse needs to get over their past, and the bad habits developed from them. As a Rex Barnett told Amy all those years ago, "There are only two emotions that belong in the saddle, patience, and a sense of humor.". Amy has found this to be very true and follows this saying as a guideline in her training program.
